More information about the newly-discovered fossils in this BBC article. Elsewhere on the BBC site, another scientist instead suggests that dinosaurs became birds when they flapped their wings to climb slopes. Sounds pretty unlikely to me. Add your two cents...

The claim is bizarre given that he claims that the wings acted like spoilers, i.e. kept the animal to the ground for better running traction, as opposed to wings for flight, which act to lift the animal from the ground. Huh?
