I have this problem. You see, I'm well aware I don't actually have enough information to know whether going to war against Iraq is truly the best decision. I will say that my point of view, it looks like the only way to disarm Saddam, but, as I and others have mentioned so many times in the past, the best information is in the hands of intelligence officials and government members, not mine. So I'm ignorant. And I know it. Now there are also people who have a very, very strong opinion about going to war -- and they are against it. But that's not the problem, this is: When questioned, they appear to know even less about the topic than I! What I mean is, since their opinion seems to be different than mine, I imagine at first, charitably, that they are in possession of a different set of facts, or better sequence of reason than mine. But when they are questioned. I usually end up feeling disturbed that they appear not to grasp even the few paltry, obvious facts I can see. (See my "Warmonger" letter for an example.) So here I have this problem: I know almost nothing about this topic, and don't have a strong opinion, but am forced to wade into the debate and have an opinion because there are people who appear to know even less trying to do their best to convince me and those around me of the correctness of their position. So I'm forced to use the few paltry facts I have to make a position I hold lightly (in view of my ignorance, again) just so I can have an intelligence response to these folks whose possession of the facts and vociferousness appear to be in inverse proportion. If you get my drift. That being said, I'm not going to be commenting too much further on the same aspects of the would-be war we've all heard. First, I'll never be as fresh, committed, or up-to-date as individuals like Glenn Reynolds, Deb (Insomnomaniac), or Lee (Right-Thinking from the Left Coast). They do their job well. Second, I like to bring a unique perspective, adding something to the blogosphere which wasn't there before. There's a lot of good Instapundit me-too reposting blogs out there, reading Glenn's stuff and doing the first layer of analysis. Having Random Observations take that kind of a focus would not serve the blogosphere well. Lastly, I have a such a short (or is it wide?) span of attention I don't think I could keep to focus on one topic. For me, for one minute its Witchcraft at Salem, the next its the administration of law in Florida. That being said, dear visitor, welcome again, and I hope you continue to enjoy Random Observations. And I apologize again for the recent hiatus. Add your two cents...

I feel the same way you do, Tim, about warblogging. Every time I make an attempt, my blogs come out confused. So, I've stopped warblogging for the most part, unless I see a really interesting post, and then I'll usually link to it, without adding much comment of my own. And you're right -- who can compete with the likes of Instapundit? Who has the time? And don't apologize for the hiatus -- we all need one from time to time! (I'm glad you're back, though).
