Thousands of Turkish troops have crossed the Northern Iraqi border, lest the Kurds have a decent life of any sort. But I can't help but wonder: Turkey, in recent months, has been begging for entry into the EU. The EU, which was supposed to be an equal representation of all its members, really seems to be heavily controlled by the French. For example, when Poland made a common declaration with the US, Chirac got all huffy and asked how dare they take an action without talking to him -- especially if they wanted to be in the EU. (Revealing Chirac, and perhaps a few friends (Schroeder?) thinks of himself as being the actual head of the EU, and perhaps actually is, who knows?) Anyway, with Turkish desires to be in the EU, and French desires to give the US another black eye, and the possibility that the French have been supplying lots of dual-use technology and support to the Iraqi WMD machine... guess where all Iraq's WMD capabilities are supposed to be stored? Answer: In the north, near Turkey. So I wonder if Turks are currently working, at behest of the French, or even with French commandos disguised as Turks, to destroy evidence of French supplies and support of prohibited technologies. Kevin: I think you're right -- that's their main reason for doing so. I may have changed my mind on this one, but the French angle could still work as a secondary motive. History will tell. Posted by: tim on March 25, 2003 04:40 PM Turks also have an interest in protecting the Turkoman population in north Iraq. They represent 10% of the population in that area. In contrast there's no altruism involved in the west's support of Kurds- just another divide and rule ploy. Why else would they 'support' arabo-muslim Kurds? Posted by: Seethrufacades on January 28, 2005 07:03 PM Yeah but the turks ruled that area for almost 5 centries in the ottoman days and was very successful in peacefully controling it. to tell u the truth ill rather see the middle east under turkish rule then under arab rule. I think Turkey has enough of an interest in the Kurds and Kurdistan without them working with or for the French.
