On December 15, 1991, William Jefferson Clinton promised that, if elected, he would "absolutely" deny China the coveted "Most Favored Nation" status. Instead, we we heard accusations of influence peddling and receiving money from the Chinese communist party. And instead, Clinton led the effort to ensure China keep Most Favored Nation status, and also bent over backwards to ensure they were granted membership in the World Trade Organization. You may not be aware of this -- the media doesn't give it much coverage -- but Christians are currently the most persecuted group on earth, and many of those killed live in places such as China, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, and Sudan. Recently, the Chinese communist party arrested 170 Christians. Their crime? Meeting in their houses to worship. The article above estimates about 50% of that particular provence have become Christians -- and this with no "western" missionary presence. As a result, there has been much persecution in this area. Think you should buy Chinese products to help their economy? Did you know that many of the products were produced by prison labor? For example, one arrested Christian leader was punished in a jail where prisioners are forced to meet huge quotas of festive Christmas lights for American consumption: He served his sentence in a labor camp where each prisoner had to string 2,500 Christmas tree bulbs every day with a thin wire. Sources say these decorative lights are exported to the United States. Xu said he was not forced to work and was treated fairly well towards the end of his sentence, so he helped a weaker prisoner meet his quota. That's why Chinese products are so cheap, folks.
