This is so incredibly interesting, I can do no better than simply comment on the Christianity Today account... When Cheryl Clark converted to Christianity, she left her lesbian lover, Elsey McLeod. So the trouble begins... But McLeod argues that she should have joint custody of Clark's 8-year-old daughter, since they spent so many years together. Oooh! Great precedent. Can't wait to see that applied to straight couples. A couple dates for several years, and the ex-lover decides the man/woman's child must still spend time with them. But surely the judge is a sensible man, and would recognize the dangerous precedent this kind of decision would set, right? Denver County Circuit Judge John Coughlin agreed — Groan. Of course. If a straight guy wanted custody of his ex-girlfriend's daughter, how far do you think he'd get? A lot further now. but went even further... Uh-oh... While Clark has the girl, Coughlin ruled, she must "make sure that there is nothing in the religious upbringing or teaching that the minor child is exposed to that can be considered homophobic." Considered "homophobic" by who? Undoubtedly this is a test in which the woman will have to defer to someone else's ideology and guidance to determine when the line of "homophobia" is being crossed. My guess is that anything which says marriage is an institution between a man and a woman, or touches on traditional ideas of sexual fidelity (much less sections of the bible which explicitly oppose homosexual conduct) would easily quality as "homophobic". McLeod was not ordered to avoid any anti-Christian teachings. No, of course not. No bias nor agenda here folks, nothing to see, move along. Well, can't recommend using physical force -- but judicial impeachment has been suggested. Posted by: Tim on December 6, 2003 11:25 AM Is a sad state of affairs when a judge condones homosexuality. What is wrong is still wrong no matter who makes it politically correct. Too many people do not have the brass ones to stand up for what is right in this country. God Bless the 10 Commandments Judge! How do we castrate these judges who make these evil rulings. If we can't do it by law then we'll have to do it by force!
