I'm watching a press conference with a white house official. They've released the payroll records which demonstrate George W. Bush did his duty, and was certified as meeting all his requirements. More than thirty years ago. Thirty years ago, Bush was headed into a drinking problem. Thirty years ago, I couldn't spell half the words in this document. Thirty years ago, most of us hadn't touched a computer. Thirty years ago Clinton was deliberately out of the country to avoid the draft. Thirty years ago, Kerry was serving with courage, and displaying positive character traits. Who cares? Even if Bush actually had done something wrong, more than thirty years ago -- if we didn't care he had a drinking problem in the mean time, and we forgave him for that -- and didn't care about Clinton and Gore completely avoiding military service -- then why on earth should we care about this comparatively more minor issue? Good heavens. I wouldn't care if a man had done all kinds of stupid things, if he'd had a major life change and had since been a steady, responsible person. Since when are the Democrats so moralistic and unforgiving? The press conference was hilarious. They should point the cameras directly at the reporters, and report the news outlet each represents as they ask their asinine questions. I'm not saying the press shouldn't question the president -- not at all! But there's a difference between hard-hitting questions and asinine behavior. Asinine is asking, as you hold the payroll records in your hands, whether the President will release the payroll records in question. (Reveals your clueslessness as well.) Asinine is asking about rumors which were dealt with long before the previous election, and are now being answered, yet again, by the payroll records in your hands. The questions sounded angry and irritable. And they tell me the press isn't biased? Why on earth are they so angry they just got they payroll records they just demanded? I'm supposed to believe these guys don't have a partisan axe to grind? I tell you, there is a huge untapped market for news in reporting the way the news itself is gathered and crafted.
