Blog Review: EU Referendum

Just wanted to recommend an interesting blog: lately, I've been reading what gets posted at EU Referendum, an interesting pair, Helen and Richard from the UK who are watching "the beast", as they sometimes call it in varied terms, form around them. And they see it for the totalitarian wanabee that it is.

Fascinating reading: it's like watch a car wreck, in very slow motion. For example:

We ought to have known that Louis Michel would be the first of the new Commissioners (he is not even waiting for the formality of being approved by the European Parliament) to make himself heard. To the delight of various international organizations and quangos he has announced that he will go round all the member states of the EU demanding that the contribution of foreign aid, that is support for corrupt and oppressive governments should be increased.

Among their various blogages, I recommend two interesting articles on why the EU is not democratic, parts one and two. The way the describe it, the EU is an elaborate ruse meant to conceal yet another massive accumulation of power not unlike the great disasters of the twentieth century.

Americans may not know many of terms or players, but that's probably a reason they should be paying attention. Many on the left here seem to view Europe as some sort of moral authority, but how do you get the ones who need to hear it most to read it?

Anyway, if you can get past the initial shock of not having the faintest idea of the players and rules, bureaus and agencies, it's worth reading for the pithy, politically astute, economically educated commentary.

Thank you kindly, Helen and Richard.
