Three thousand Americans killed in a single day by Muslim extremists. As the nation descends into economic shock and air travel everywhere is halted, a nation takes assessment: Who did this to us? Why? The universal prediction is waves of retaliations against innocent Muslims living here in the US. Mosques being burnt. Arabic-looking men, women and children being attacked and assaulted. Verbal harassment. And the retaliation, when it comes, is... Nothing. Sure, there are complaints that sixty men were questioned by the FBI. And an attempt to cast the removal of the Taliban government in Afghanistan as "revenge" rather than a national security issue. But there are also complaints that decrepit old white ladies, not olive-skinned young men are being searched in airports, and complaints that Bush waited too long to respond militarily against the Taliban. Now compare the situation to Holland. One man is killed by Muslim extremists. Not three thousand, just one man. And, in response:
Good, guys, really good. Way to show your love of law and order. Direct your retaliation at the kids, why don't you. Like it was their fault. Americans: Intolerant. Europeans: Tolerant. Get that through your heads. Ignore all contrary evidence. THIS OFFER GOES OUT TO WHOEVER WROTE THIS ARTICLE, HOWEVER ANYONE ELSE WHO AGREE'S WITH IT, THINKS IT IS AN ACCURATE DEPICTION OF EUROPEAN SOCIETY OR JUST WANTS A RUCKUS IS ALSO MORE THAN WELCOME TO TAKE THE OFFER UP! I live in Europe, in a community that is 35% Muslim, of Pakistani origin. as you can probably, guess spirits run high about the war on terror, and to be honest mate I probably have a greater understanding of the complex reasons behind alienation within the muslim community than you could ever have. You have my e-mail address, if you would like to know how the real Europe is working and dealing with multi-culturalism then I'd be happy too. Infact, please ignore my earlier comments. It appears to me like your a genuine, beef-eating American conservative. An actual embodiment of the stereotype that I've been trained to hate in my upbringing here in England. Just like I have been told to hate you and your kind, I can imagine you have similar animosity to me and my kind. I am a Socialist. Not a liberal, or a leftist, or any of these pathetic watered down euthamisms. I am a radical socialist and I make no bones about it. I come from a long heritage of socialism, my family have been dedicated to the overthrow of capitalism since the Chartist movement of the 1840's. I am a member of the Anarchist Federation and several socialist society's. If you need to pinpoint me ideologically, I would say that I am a Libertarian Communist, but once I figured out that was a contradiction in terms I dropped it pretty quickly. Therefore, I am to you the very same as you are to me. I am the opposite stereotype, the European Socialist who reads Marx religiously and gets his pills off the NHS. I do not know, but I imagine you could quite possibly regard me with the same curiosity and intrigue with which I see you. I would like to stress though, that regardless of political allegiences we are united in common humanity and only the evils of the state, private capital and false conciousness seperate us. Solidarity is the key to all human relationships, and in the spirit of engagement and mutual curiosity I would like to ask you to defend some of the clap-trap you are peddling on this website. If you would be willing to put yourself to the test against someone who isn't going to re-hash the same old "liberals vs conservatives" schtick that gets peddled over the pond then feel free to e-mail me and start it up. Talk-radio rhetoric and fox news will be of no use to you if you want to try and I'm quite sure I could show you the error of your ways. Posted by: Red Rob on February 6, 2005 08:28 PM I don't understand. Punish the persons who did the crime. Why whole community? This is racism, whereever it happens. A black dude tried to mug me once, should I stay away from all African Americans? Hell no. Where is the education? Posted by: Imran Aziz on February 7, 2005 05:25 AM Punish the persons who did the crime. Why whole community? My point exactly.
I wasn't aware Islam was a race. Somehow I was under the impression that it was a religion. Posted by: Tim (Random Observations) on February 7, 2005 09:02 AM One more clarification, while we're at it. By: Americans: Intolerant. Europeans: Tolerant. I'm not meaning to imply the opposite: That Americans are all sweetness and light, and Europeans are deeply intolerant. My point is just that people are people, and, judged against this one metric, it seems the evidence goes against the common wisdom. Posted by: Tim (Random Observations) on February 7, 2005 09:07 AM Yes Tim, it is a Relegion, it is not a race. I was trying to say that hating the whole community based on the action of one or few ppl is not right. Whatever it is called. Who so ever did it is wrong. And no body is all goody goody or absolute evil either. People like to think their side is but it is not as black and white. Although ppl let themselves be manipulated thinking that way.
