According to the BBC:

Nine out of 10 European Union citizens know little or nothing about the new EU constitution, a study suggests.

But half of the 25,000 people polled by the EU said they would vote in favour of the treaty, which faces referendums in 10 of 25 member states.

The UK was the only country where more of those questioned were against the constitution than in favour.

"We're not sure what this means, but we're pretty sure it's wonderful!"

But, wait, isn't it Americans who are supposed to be ignorant, brainwashed and blindly supporting their leadership?

Fits well with my realization of the week: Instilling arrogance is an excellent way to keep people ignorant, and thus making them easy to manipulate. Tell someone other people (we Americans, in this case) are stupid, and they'll be confident of their superiority. Convince them they're wise and enlightened and they won't quest for more knowledge, and will even resist contradictory information.

At least the Brits mostly still appear to know how to smell a rat. I fear that won't last forever though. Thank heavens for a free press and the Internet.
