... is something I've been largely ignoring. From first-hand reports of those who aren't affiliated with the MSM, it sounds like the group of protestors in Crawford is rather small, but I guess they're saying what the MSM wants us to hear today, so it's being given something near OJ-level coverage. And of course, Cindy has as much right to her opinon, and protest, as anyone. But this quote from her, if true, is a bit jaw-dropping:
So, let me get this straight: as least rhetorically, here is a mother who hates a war so much she would suggest running over her own son in order not to support it? What does this suggest about her current stance? Apparently, she's not above lying a bit about her son's stance either, claiming he was tricked into joining the military, was deeply opposed to the war, and wanted to get out of it but had not choice, when in fact, he'd just re-enlisted. I'm sure she's a nice person otherwise, but some of the statements I see coming from her just don't jive with her purported position and motivations. Normally, I wouldn't care -- I have better things to do than say negative things about some particular war protestor and soldier's mom -- but since the media seems to really want us to know, I guess it's fair comment on what they refuse to highlight. If I give her the benefit of the doubt, and I will, she is a grieving mother experiencing so much pain now, that she is not completely rational. In such a state of angst, I think we'd all be more likely to make wild statements. And in that state she is more vulnerable to manipulation by others with agendas that she may or may not share. But I'm guessing that all she knows right now is that her baby is dead, and she hurts. One can only hope that she really would never have run over her child, though I'm sure for her at this point, as long as he lived, even that would be infinitely better for her than not having him. So I would guess that this is more about her grieving her loss than it really is about her stance on the war, even if the media wants to take advantage of her. Otherwise, based on the running over him comment, I'd have to conclude that she cared more about the "immoral war" than about the health and well-being of her son. And if that were the case, she would have greater moral issues to deal with than the war. Posted by: Steve on August 26, 2005 10:47 AM Add your two cents...

I'm going back to ignoring it now.
