You've just GOT to love a group which is so impressed with it's own moral authority that it would hold a session called "Bringing Conscience to Ground Zero". You know: conscience. They have it. You don't. Nobody at ground zero of the WTC ever had it. But they do, and if we just obey them, the WTC memorial will too. That's even better than "The Moral Majority", which at least implies the majority of people are moral. Philip Kunhardt, the Freedom Center's editorial director, was in attendance at a session called Bringing Conscience to Ground Zero and was given this advice: * "Help distinguish between American people and the U.S. government in exhibits ..." I'm sure we know exactly who will get to speak for the "American people." And why do we need to distinguish? I expect there's going to be some blame to spread around -- and the only way to blame "the government", but not the American people, is to tacitly deny that the US is a Democratic Republic whose government operates with the consent of those governed. Perhaps North Korea will be offered as a better model for "true" freedom? * "Use reports from human rights organizations to examine contemporary abuse of rights." ... in Muslim countries like those the attackers come from? In dictatorships like Venezuela, China, and Cuba? Or just here in the US, on a site where 3,000 had their human rights violated by a group of religous extremists? * "Involve the United Nations, UNESCO and other international bodies." Okay, I guess that answers my last question. Sudan won't be singled out for the slaughter of millions in the last decade. Instead, as head of the UN Human Rights Commission, and a former host of Osama bin Laden, Sudan will be in the driver's seat in designing the 9/11 Memorial. Beautiful. * "Use the museum as a venue for international meetings, where all views are welcomed and considered." ... as long as it all ends with a hearty condemnation of Israel and the US, right? Perhaps a chant of "Death to the Jews!" and "Death to America!"? I personally can't conceive of a more fitting tribute to those who died on those grounds. Add your two cents...
