Tonight I sat in a room with about 1,200 others listening to Rudy Guiliani speak. Although it wasn't a political event, I'm pretty sure that most the crowd was either ambivalent or warm towards Guiliani, and probably more towards the conservative end of the political spectrum. As Rudy talked about investigating the mafia, becoming mayor of New York and fighting crime, standing up against terrorism, and finally about the importance of holding a steadfast position on the war in Iraq, I had an interesting realization. What does Rudy -- and probably most of his audience -- think is "the enemy"? Listed in tonight's talk were crime (both organized and random), political cowardice, and terrorism. And that outlook probably reflected most of his audience -- it certainly seemed to resonate with those around my table. My realization was this: At a similar gathering of those on the liberal end of the spectrum, who or what was the enemy? We were. Conservatives. We're worried about the people who blew up the WTC. We're talking about the best policies for combating organized crime, kidnapping, and petty crimes. And, over on the other side of the political aisle, they're worried about us. We're a bigger threat to them than the terrorists who blew up the WTC. We're a bigger threat to them than Osama bin Laden. Us, with our salads, chicken, and cheesecake, donating money to a major university, and listening to the former mayor of NYC speak. We're the big threat. Easy! Al-Qaeda has letter Q, so does Iraq. Clear link right there! Is it genius or what? Posted by: Imran on November 10, 2005 01:06 AM Are your feeling a bit guilty about something? Unless you are lobbying to remove personal rights, lower taxes for the wealthy, or think your best friends are qualified for any and all jobs then chill. Meanwhile the other side of the aisle has no plan, no goal, and can only take shots at the other side. I would like to know what Rudy's position is on Iraq. I know when I am asked if I support GW my response is that I support the Presidency. And on a different note. I'm all for Intelligent Design. What ARE you doing about Osama bin Laden? Or the terrorists who attacked the World Trade Center?
