I have no dog in this hunt, but it looks increasingly like the administration was on the sensible side here, and the critics -- many of whom I admire -- went off half-cocked. If this trend continues, I suggest the main lesson conservatives need to learn here is to be leery of any issue which originates from Michael Savage -- who is sure he is over five hundred years old (he's been re-incarnated many times, ya know?) and whom I have heard abuse on air not just callers but even the staff who helps him. (He also tends to claim that every obvious observation was stolen from him.) Why some conservatives pay attention to this guy is beyond me. Perhaps his main audience (he came out of San Francisco after all) are actually liberals who find him a more comforting stereotype to dismiss than, say, Michael Medved or Dennis Prager -- who tend to (politely, mind you) beat the intellectual snot out of their opponents.
