I have great difficulty getting in the head of school officials who issue rules like this:
This happened last year; the kids were ten years old. I mean -- how do you rationalize this? You're not allowed to bring this one specific book to school? On what grounds? Are other books banned? Forget the religious overtones -- it strikes me as just as strange as banning any other non-obscene book. I mean, imagine if the principal stated that kids couldn't bring Huck Finn to school or read it during recess -- and just that book. Of course, you can't leave the religion out of the analysis: that's the main reason the principal is so upset. There is something about this book that bothered her, and she can't stand the idea a bunch of ten-year-olds reading it and being influenced by it. All that "love your neighbor" stuff is dangerous and subversive, I tell ya. Add your two cents...

Agreed. In a country that is so full of "tollerance" it's ironic that some of the only things that aren't tollerated are those that provide hope. Is our country so concerned with not offending anyone that we're loosing our own opinions and beliefs?
