Monitoring the Canary in the Coal Mine

You know, just when I'm having a nice week I have to hear about ugly stuff like this -- in which two professors from the Kennedy School of Government and Chicago University explain that America is really being secretly controlled by the Jews. The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune are all in thrall to the powerful "Israel Lobby"...

The Lobby’s perspective prevails in the mainstream media: the debate among Middle East pundits, the journalist Eric Alterman writes, is ‘dominated by people who cannot imagine criticising Israel’. He lists 61 ‘columnists and commentators who can be counted on to support Israel reflexively and without qualification’. Conversely, he found just five pundits who consistently criticise Israeli actions or endorse Arab positions. Newspapers occasionally publish guest op-eds challenging Israeli policy, but the balance of opinion clearly favours the other side.

How else could we possibly explain why these publications don't run many editorials FAVORING the PLO or Hamas? Could it be, maybe, because of the atrocious track record of these notoriously violent and corrupt organizations? Or the fact that they won't accept any compromise short of total annihilation of another nation, Israel? Or the difficulty in praising the civil rights records or political policies of nations like Saudi Arabia or Syria?

No! Any imbalance can only be expained by a nefarious secret Jewish plot to control the media!

Hmmmm... where have we heard that conspiracy theory before?

[Nazi depiction of rich Jews controlling the German media, blanketing a German city in pro-Jewish propaganda. Thanks to The Religious Policeman blog.]

Isn't this obvious? Why can't people see these obvious parallels? The left is screaming "Nazi! Nazi!" about anyone who disagrees with them, and yet, here it is, old-style Nazi propaganda right in their midst.

Do they reject these guys? So far, since both are strongly anti-Bush, their views can be found alongside prominent lefties like Chomsky, Howard Zinn, and Joe Wilson. But I'm sure there will be a rousing condemnation from the left any moment now...

<crickets chirping>

Any moment now...

Update: Max Boot has a takedown of Mearshimer and Walt's piece in the LA Times -- clearly another organ of Jewish control. He closes with this zinger:

After finishing their magnum opus, I was left with just one question: Why would the omnipotent Israel lobby (which, they claim, works so successfully "to stifle criticism of Israel") allow such a scurrilous piece of pseudo-scholarship to be published? Then I noticed that Walt occupies a professorship endowed by Robert and Renee Belfer, Jewish philanthropists who are also supporters of Israel. The only explanation, I surmise, is that Walt must himself be an agent of those crafty Israelites, employed to make the anti-Israel case so unconvincingly that he discredits it. "The Lobby" works in mysterious ways.

The same can be said of the cartoon I published above: The image depicts a town awash in Jewish propaganda. Yet one can't help noticed that the existence and publication of the cartoon itself -- along with so many similar cartoons, posters and articles from that era -- serves as it's own refutation.

Comments

In case anyone's curious, the title above the cartoon translates as "Picture Book of 'The Good Old Times'". I assume that's a sarcastic reference to the time before the Nazis took power. (The Religious Policeman states that the image is from 1934, and as you might know they took power in 1933.)
