Today on the way to work I saw old 1980s Cadillac, with heavily-tinted windows. Clearly painted on the back window, in huge letters, was: "I Hate Bush." The car was flying a huge mexican flag. I guess he's opposed to Bush's attempts to grant him US citizenship. So, um, this wasn't a great argument for amnesty: I hate your country. I feel no loyalty to it. My loyalty is to Mexico. I hate your president. And I'm too dumb to know he's actually on my side. So give me lots of benefits. I know Bush is motivated by his principles (which are different than mine), and I give him credit for that, but he has a long history of seemingly trying to appease the people who hate him, while alienating the people who support him. I think it's partially because he's a reflexive liberal on so many issues. (I can hear you laughing. Look at his spending history.) That is not the kind of person we should be rushing to grant citizenship to. And I don't mean because of his country of origin, or race: I mean because he's full of hatred, doesn't love our country, and doesn't know bother to learn enough about the country he apparently despises (yet wants to inhabit) to know which politicians are on his side -- before airing his grossly-uninformed political opinons. We've already got enough of that. Why George Bush wants more is beyond me. If parts of the western US were Mexican territory today, Mexicans would still be fleeing it. Because it is their leaders and their culture which cause Mexico to have such a bad economy, not something magical about the soil, sky, or waters. Let's not replicate that experiment here. I favor increased immigration, but the way my grandfather did it: with assimilation. Add your two cents...
