International Daily Newswire:
UK Scientists Seek to Create Human-Cow Embryos
NEWCASTLE, UK, November 6, 2006 (ENS) - Stem cell scientists have applied for permission to create embryos by combining human DNA with cow eggs. Their research aims to develop new therapies for human ailments such as strokes, Alzheimer's and tissue damage suffered by spinal trauma victims. Critics say the mixing of animal and human DNA is unethical and should be illegal...
If granted, the HFEA licence would allow the scientists to create hybrid embryos that would be 0.1 percent animal and 99.9 percent human, using an established technique known as nuclear transfer, or therapeutic cloning.
In other words, by adding a few bits of cow DNA, they're free to create and grow what are essentially humans. Ah, but it's "therapeutic" cloning, meaning they promise to abort the fetus before it gets too far. Who needs abortion clinics? We can do it in the lab.
Quite telling is the fact that you never see THAT side of it brought up in news stories, instead you see what to me read like re-assurances that whats being done is going to ultimately lead to cures for some of the most infamous diseases. When you do see a mention of the opposing view point, its limited to the question of whether or not creating animal-human hybrids is ethical, no mention of the fact that its still essentially human cloning and what will be done with the fetus after the research has been finished.
This is why the crusade against liberal media bias is growing, not diminishing, because as more and more issues come to the forefront and older issues become more detailed and nuanced, more and more examples of said bias are illuminated for the public.
