If you cut out "of the United States", these are the lyrics to a popular Schoolhouse Rock tune. But this text is better known, historically, as the Preamble to the US Constitution. Those "lyrics" were written by one Gouverneur Morris (yes, that's his actual name, not a mispelling of "Governor"). (Who, I'm sure, never envisioned he was writing a hit pop song for future ten-year-olds.) Besides helping to write the US Constitution, Gouverneur served as a soldier, helped secure more aid for Washington's troops at valley forge, ran for office (and lost), and also coined (excuse the pun) the word "cent" for a penny. But I still wouldn't name my kid after him. :-) Add your two cents...
