Chris Hedges, former New York Times and NPR reporter, via Volokh:
The paradox of tolerance is that, of course, we shouldn't allow people to disagree with us or say we're bad. We must destroy the first amendment to save it, you know. ;-) As far as "eradication", that appears to be a lie: I don't know of any major Christian movement advocating the "eradication" of non-adherants. But hey, I even stand by Chris Hedges' right to publish hate-filled lies like those. I wonder: would Hedges be willing to share half of his column space with me, so I could refute publicly what he said? Would The Nation be willing to spend half of it's publishing costs directly subsidizing "right-wing" speech? I mean, let's be serious: if the fairness doctrine is a good idea, why shouldn't we go all the way with it? Or is it only "Christians" who must be "balanced"? Add your two cents...
