The Appalling Ignorance of ProgressiveU

This is the kind of thing which currently makes it onto Google's "News" page. Apparently, in "Progressive U", we can learn all kinds of novel things about history -- and pick up some rather amusing alternate spellings!

Now, let's spend some quality time with the "reality-based community"...

The profit Paul traversing the Roman Empire devoted his life to spreading the word of Christianity...

Yes, and I'm sure he made very little prophet from his efforts.

Jesus, a flesh and blood man, was not known as Jesus Christ until almost 150 years after his crucifixion.

Except among his followers, and in the documents written about him within a generation of his death. Egads, even Wikipedia dates most these books within the first century. Can't he even do a quick web search?

Jesus, like other Messiahs of the time, was a great man trying to free his people from Roman Imperialism...

... which is why he insisted people should pay taxes to Caesar, and taught his followers not to fight against political authorities...

... but there were dozens of self-proclaimed messiahs during the time. They all had similar claims, turned water into wine, fed 1,000 people with two fish and a loaf of bread, walked on water.

Really? Name one with similar claims. Just one, please.

I say go with the flow. It’s blatantly obvious that China will be the supreme financial and military power of the world in the next 15 years. Everyone should become Buddhist.

Because, you know, Buddhism is the official religion of China. (Not!)

I have a better idea: How about if we allow people to believe all kinds of different religions, insteading of mandating all must have the same faith? But I guess theocracy is actually a "progressive" idea?

And actually, Christianity is the fast growing religion in China now -- there are more Christians and Communist Party members, actually -- so I guess our dear scholar is willing, then, to convert to that?

Somehow, I think not. Because...

I agree that christians are very narrow mined generally racist people and that nothing could convince them they are wrong.

Yeah, and they're very hateful towards any who disagree. Like, they'll call you a racist if you're not like them. And stuff. That's how bad they are.

And you can't change their minds. Like, by asking them to look up the dates of books which call Jesus "Christ". Or the Chinese government's policy on religion.

And, posted by a commenter:

Honestly, I think the Christians are the least-tolerant people out of any religion.

In the last century, around the globe, we've seen countries where Islam, Buddhism, and Atheism are the official religion. And in most of them (yes, including in officially Buddhist nations, like Nepal and Myanmar) you can be killed for changing your beliefs to the wrong religion.

In contrast, not a single (officially or unofficially) Christian nation mandates -- much less even permits -- such killings.

But hey, volumes of evidence can't make a dent in some minds. As long as I'm not a Christian, they think, I must be smart and tolerant. Never mind that they don't seem to know fhe first thing about the history they "teach", seem to welcome Communist Chinese rule, and insist everyone should adopt the same religion.

Thanks, Google News! I learned a lot!

Oh, and, um, do not read this if you are going to get offended.
