Slapped for Wishing Pelosi Well (And Requesing the Same)

Just a final follow-up on my last post, where I pointed out that I'm opposed to liberal-ism, and don't harbor personal hatred towards liberals, as individual people. A reader had challenged me, saying: "I am waiting for you to say one positive thing about the left." In response, I pointed to a number of recent posts where I'd praised people of the left.

Today, a "liberal" commenter (so he signed his name) reminded me of yet another post where I recently wrote some nice things to my colleagues across the aisle -- and had again clarified my stance:

I do wish the newly-elected Democrats well: I'm not filled with animosity or anything of the sort. They are our elected leaders, and we're all in the same boat. Whether I voted for them or not, they represent me: to wish them poorly is to wish our nation itself would do poorly.

I went on to make the point that it was nice to see the media fawning over her during her confirmation, and that everyone deserves positive attention on their day of victory -- but then also noted that I wish they'd allowed John Roberts' the same day in the sun (rather than investigating his children's adoption records and savaging them, in two separate national columns, for their clothing).

Of this discrepancy, I wrote:

I just find the contrast interesting.

The response from my "liberal" reader?

I know all you repuglitards like to post stupid comments, spin and lies, but this takes the cake. Those kids were family members of all the congress who were there. Amazing how dumb you people can be.

I suspect he'd misconstrued a passing observation that Pelosi was "surrounded with as much familial wholesomeness as possible" as saying I thought all the children at the podium in one particular photo -- all twenty of so of them -- must have been hers. (Err, um, no: I chose my words carefully.)

But that was quite beside the point, which was (a) to express my hopes, as the new Congress came in, that Democrats will do well for all of us, (b) to take the opportunity to demonstrate that I don't hate everyone in the other party, and (c) to ask for conservatives to be treated with the same courtesy the media (rightly) affords to liberals when they are elected. Apparently, that's a bit too much to ask -- from this fellow, or from the national media.
