When I first saw John Edwards' house, my first thought was: Won't it be rich (pardon the pun) if this guy takes up poverty as his key issue? And sure enough, he did. And of course, on the tails of the Marcotte scandal (in which Edwards hired a woman, known for writing blasphemous things, as his communicator) I figured he'd starting doing the I-love-Jesus dance. Which he also did.

Edwards charges $55,000 to speak to UC Davis students about poverty

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards, who as a Democratic presidential candidate recently proposed an educational policy that urged "every financial barrier" be removed for American kids who want to go to college, has been going to college himself -- as a high paid speaker, his financial records show.

The candidate charged a whopping $55,000 to speak at to a crowd of 1,787 the taxpayer-funded University of California at Davis on Jan. 9, 2006 last year...

While the situation is somewhat ironic, the fact that Edwards is addressing the issue of poverty is admirable.

Because, you know, nobody ever talks about being opposed to poverty.
