Can you imagine the outcry if it had been blacks, rather than Jews who were forced to enter through the service door in the back? But hey: these days, it's quite acceptable to degrade Israeli Jews (and now British Jews) in ways which would be considered despicable if applied to any other group. Instead, wouldn't the moral thing to have been to offer a little lesson, like: Step one will consist of treating your opponents with basic human respect. Nothing else until we get can get that far. And, indeed, if Saudis and Palestinians still view Jews as less than human (and they do), how can we rationally expect even more from them? And if they see that their racism can secure approval and support for small atrocities from the Bush administration, why shouldn't they also infer they'll get a pass or even support on larger violations of human rights? There are things I admire about Rice, but (like much of the Bush administration) she's no conservative here: Apparently "victimhood" is determined (following Marx) materialistically (by race, nationality, or relative economic status) rather than morally (by examining one's actual behavior and actions). Further, the fact that most Palestinians openly state they want genocide apparently does not discredit them, and the fact that Olmert and so many Israelis are willing to bend over backwards for peace is apparently not to their credit. Truly, it must be nice to live in that world. You never have to oppose real evil, and the world will pat you on the back for it. You look brave by opposing Olmert (a far-left peacenik, fer heaven's sake) not Hamas. So, any chance that a new Churchill will show up in this mess... ? It would probably take the equivalent of an open Nazi assault, as it did back then. It's on my list to sometime read his book, The River War. Good to hear from you. Posted by: Tim (Random Observations) on December 4, 2007 01:01 AM Nice to have the time to comment! :D Unfortunately, I think you're right. The River War looks fascinating, and as a side note, Amazon shows that they're publishing the full two volume set. Posted by: Michael Zappe on December 4, 2007 10:18 AM Cool! Though I suspect you can probably find it free online, as the copyright's probably expired by now. Probably Gutenberg has it. (And I don't mind reading books on an LCD display, which bothers many people.) Posted by: Tim (Random Observations) on December 6, 2007 02:16 AM Add your two cents...

Ugh, this is disgusting. I know the use of the "H word" is supposed to end all intelligent discussion, so I'll simply compare Rice to Neville Chamberlain, the spineless twerp.
So, any chance that a new Churchill will show up in this mess, or is it going to get much, much worse first, (or, hopefully, last)? :-S
