Probably both, I suspect. Wait, shouldn't that be 100% of Christians. It's kind of hard to follow Christ if you don't believe he rose from the dead. Haven't you heard? The new strategy is to fill churches with people who don't really believe all that stuff, but insist the label "Christian" should be applied to them. Step two is to then claim that traditional Christians are a strange, radical, and threatening new movement who are usurping their beliefs. Somehow somewhere over 25% of the people believe that Jesus was bodily resurrected, but only 9% believe they will be? Worse: 25% of them believe Jesus rose from the dead, but only 9% believe that rising from the dead is possible! Heh: I wonder what percentage atheists think they will be physically resurrected after death. That would have been a fun addition. I'm pretty sure the number would be non-zero. I was going to point out that in 2002, 11% of respondents told pollsters that Elvis was definitely or possibly still alive. That sounds high to me, at least from my own personal sample, but who knows -- perhaps some are pulling pollsters' legs, so to speak. (But I wouldn't absolutely bet on it.) Anyway, my point is that in the general population, you always have some small but non-negligible group who believe (or will say they believe) pretty much any wacky things you'd care to suggest. Someone used to buy the Weekly World News, after all. Posted by: Tim (Random Observations) on March 19, 2008 11:13 PM Add your two cents...

That entire survey hurts my head.
Fifty-seven percent of people questioned said they believe that Jesus was crucified, buried and rose from the dead, with over half of those accepting the traditional Christian belief in the bodily resurrection of Christ and the rest believing that Jesus rose in spirit form.
Ummm... Wait, shouldn't that be 100% of Christians. It's kind of hard to follow Christ if you don't believe he rose from the dead. As to the spirit form thing, good grief! Can you say heresy anyone?
Then again, self-identifying atheists saying that they think Jesus is the Son of God is equally confusing.
It gets even more amusing once you start looking at the general percentages.
Somehow somewhere over 25% of the people believe that Jesus was bodily resurrected, but only 9% believe they will be? Gak! I think the fact that there is mass confusion and syncretism is just about the only conclusion you can draw from this poll.
