Congressional Democrats Assisting FARC

A few days ago we learned that leftist narcoterrorist group FARC was being paid by Hugo Chavez to undermine Columbia's government. The same hard seized hard drives also seemed to show that US Congressmen were also assisting FARC. I wanted to hear some names.

It appears those names have now been made public:

A hard drive recovered from the computer of a killed Colombian guerrilla has offered more insights into the opposition of House Democrats to the U.S.-Colombia Free Trade Agreement.

A military strike three weeks ago killed Raúl Reyes, No. 2 in command of the FARC, Colombia's most notorious terrorist group. The Reyes hard drive reveals an ardent effort to do business directly with the FARC by Congressman James McGovern (D., Mass.), a leading opponent of the free-trade deal. Mr. McGovern has been working with an American go-between, who has been offering the rebels help in undermining Colombia's elected and popular government.

Take a moment to digest that, if you will. FARC didn't seek out Congressman McGovern, but quite the other way around. Chavez's plan for either making FARC legitimate -- or at least isolating Columbian President Uribe, internationally -- shows up again in this article. The end result, as Chavez envisioned it, would have been FARC in control of Columbia. The evidence readily suggests that McGovern knew others who would join him in these actions, and were of like mind. Heritage.org supplies a few, when introducing the news:

We already knew that ex-Rep. Joe Kennedy (D-MA) eagerly appeared in U.S. television advertisements promoting “our good friends in Venezuela” who allowed Chavez’s Citgo to supply reduced-price heating oil to Massachusetts residents. And we already knew that Rep. William Delahunt backed Ch[a]vez’s efforts to release hostages in Venezuela...

What is it with some Democrats and their affinity for terrorism and hatred for democracies? I'm sure they imagine they're doing good, but the exact mechanisms escape me in this case.
