Washington always seems to demand more taxes -- but perhaps we could all get together and send them some more... feck? Whatever that is, it sounds like they don't have enough of it. Don! Hello! Wonderful to hear from you again! Thanks much for the informative link! What Hatch views as "a problem" is his opponents cherish as "an opportunity" or even "an ideal." Obama himself expressed the same view -- that judges should substitute their own feelings for the law when they personally felt the cause was good:
Does the law prescribe a statute of limitations? Oh well, I like your case, out it goes! (To another: Your case, I don't like, so it applies, still!)
I agree, in a sense... in the same sense that Bush could be said to be "alienating" our allies. In both cases, populations are simply responding to what they see and hear in the media. They see glowing prose in the paper, they assume there's a lovely underlying reality. (Example: When Bush gave a speech in Turkey saying Islam was not our enemy, the media largely ignored it. When Barack did the exact same thing, it was vigorously reported as a drastic change from Bush.) To pick an example at random (first Obama-related link under Google US news): this. Obama wants to make it easier to get unemployment pay and wants give more loans to students. The article admits there's no specific plan yet. And there is no criticism cited -- only positive statements that it will surely help the economy. Reader: "What a wonderful man! He's really helping us! Look how he cares for the unemployed! And wants to improve the economy." Never mind that he hasn't even proposed anything specific yet, much less done anything.
I agree completely, Don: there's definitely a religious component to progressive politics, and certainly in this case. 1 Samuel 8 implies that love of powerful government is a substitute for loving one's creator.
I hear this question so often I'm starting to feel obliged to write about it. Hopefully soon, friend. Best to you! Posted by: Tim (Random Observations) on May 9, 2009 08:13 AM Tim: Judge Sonia Sotomayor in the news again! Obama apparently likes Sotomayor's approach in justice. Who cares about checks and balances? Policy will be implemented regardless of the constructs of our Constitution. Rules for radicals: "Radicals must have a degree of control over the flow of events.” http://article.nationalreview.com/?q=MTY5ZTA5NmEwMGY4MTFhNDg2ZDg4NjU2MDkxOGYyYTE= That Chinese curse keeps echoing in my head..."may you live in interesting times" It's going to be very interesting. Fasten your seatbelts! Don Posted by: on May 26, 2009 12:05 PM Hiya again Don! Who cares about checks and balances? The right prefers to keep government in check by pitting one branch against another. The left carries the same idea forward (in spirit, anyway) by the idea that a "caring" judge (with a soft, loving heart of flesh) can keep the cold, uncaring law at check by modifying at each juncture based on their own personal feelings and alleged empathy. And doesn't that sound nice? But the problem is every time they bend the law to accommodate one party, they end up hurting many others. And it also means we're no longer a nation ruled by laws, but by men. (And women.) Posted by: Tim (Random Observations) on June 4, 2009 01:49 AM Add your two cents...

Tim,
So glad you're back online. The last four months just didn't seem the same without your blog as one of my routine stops.
Feckless? Well I've never heard the term but after looking it up, I find that it means “lack of purpose.” Your conclusion is spot on: Washington certain doesn't lack "purpose". Our problem of course is (IMHO) that their self-anointed purpose seems to be creating an ever escalating snow ball of debt, protection of the bureaucracies, and the growing of Federal power that is at odds with our Constitution.
Just think of the scary issue of the recent comments of Judge Sonia Sotomayor. Yikes!

Our president is inspiring many people in our country. I’m afraid however that the inspiration is very shallow with most, and quite frankly it borders on idol worship. What is the most interesting part to me is how history will unfold in light of the Christian principle found in Romans 13. I know God is in control, but does that mean we’re going to be in the eye of the hurricane when all plays out?
Thanks again Tim for being around. (So to speak) ;)
