Pelosi's National Socialism Fantasies

Jonah Goldberg:
Nancy Pelosi, who will get her own bound volume in the annals of asininity, has outdone herself. When asked by a reporter whether the protests at various town hall meetings represented legitimate grassroots opposition or were manufactured "Astroturf" stunts, she replied, "I think they're Astroturf. You be the judge. They're carrying swastikas and symbols like that to a town meeting on health care."
Now this is a pas de trois of dishonesty, slander and idiocy. Not only is Pelosi lying when she says protestors are bringing swastikas to these town halls, not only is she suggesting that American citizens are Nazis for having the effrontery to get in the way of ObamaCare, but she's also saying that the alleged swastikas are obvious proof that these protests are manufactured by slick P.R. gurus.
How does that work? What public relations genius says: "OK, we need these protests to seem like an authentic backlash of real Americans. Make sure everyone has enough Nazi paraphernalia!"
Charges of "astroturfing" are especially amusing coming from those who promoted a "community organizer" — an admitted paid full-time worker who takes a group non-organized citizens and attempts to organize them, top-down, into supporting some particular cause — for President.
Of course, just because something is laughably stupid doesn't mean many people won't buy it. Hillary Clinton said a "vast right-wing conspiracy" had manufactured the Lewinsky scandal out of nothing, and I had friends (Democrats) who swallowed it hook, line, and sinker. ("Look there are people who are opposed to the Clintons!" "Yes," I would respond, "those are called conservatives. I'm one of them. We're not a 'conspiracy'; we're just a group of voters who disagree with what they're doing. And we're not a dark force behind every mistake Bill makes.")
It is possible that Pelosi was not just making this up. She may just be stupid. She may have been referring to one hand-drawn sign I saw in multiple news reports that showed a swastica inside the red circle/slash (think Ghostbusters, no smoking, etc.) indicating the protesters were specifically ANTI-Nazi (and presumably the national socialism they felt the health care bill represents).
If that is the case, then Nancy's not necessarily a dishonest/slandering ass (reference to the animal, not the anatomy), she's a dumb-ass.
Then again, I don't know if she's so dumb to think the anti-Obamacare folks are really organized, and not just Americans who think this is a bad idea.
But if she is, and really has a problem with organized protesters, then I'm still waiting for her condemnation of the truly organized SUPPORTERS of the plan that showed up at a St. Louis Town Hall meeting Russ Carnahan held. It would be hard to argue that these pro-Obamacare folks who were wearing their pre-printed union shirts and carring pre-printed signs, were not organized. But hey, maybe it was just a coincidence... You know like, when you and your co-workers accidentally where khaki's and the same blue oxford on the same day?
Still, you'd think Nancy would have some outrage about the Obamacare supporters who shouted racial slurs and violently attacked a conservative black business man giving away "Don't Tread On Me" buttons and flags? Then again, maybe she'll just point out that under the Obama healthcare plan, his trip to the ER would be "free." That guy probably had a deductible to pay...

Her? I would have been thrilled had it simply been reported by the media, which constantly poses as concerned about such things, and of a neutral position.

Heh, assuming his "end of life care" was found to be beneficial to society. ;-)
