Dear reader, whoever you are, I want you to know that as a Christian, living in this time and place, I strongly support your right to criticize and even blaspheme all I hold to be holy and good. I further would defend your right to mock me on ethnic and cultural grounds. Do I want you do so? Of course not: I think blatant blasphemy is crass and racism is unhelpful, and is of no more use to those offering it than lies. But without ability to criticize the beliefs (or race, or culture, etc) of another, real dialog, and real freedom, is impossible. I don't want our government to "balance" our free speech rights against the need to protect someone's feelings — that's a decision which should be left up to individuals and non-governmental groups — and I'm very sad that our president apparently does. But I find it even sadder that, as a populace, we've chosen such an individual to represent us and our values. Add your two cents...
